DEH Student Workshop: “Reclaiming Design”

The Department of English and Humanities (DEH) at ULAB organized a two-day workshop titled “Reclaiming Design” on August 18 and August 19, 2021, for the DEH students who have volunteered to be the poster designers for Summer 2021 department events. The workshop was facilitated by Mohammad Zaki Rezwan, Senior Lecturer, DEH. Rezwan’s areas of specialization include South Asian arts, aesthetics, and visual culture. His designs and illustrations have been commissioned by universities across Bangladesh. At the workshop, he shared his experience and knowledge about design thinking, philosophy, and process. With vivid examples, he discussed different elements of graphic design in relation to the overall aesthetic choice. The workshop was designed to maximize the student’s contribution to a wide range of extracurricular activities at ULAB. This event concluded with the closing remarks delivered by Ms. Arifa Ghani Rahman, Head of the Department, where she noted how workshops like this are regularly organized by DEH to help students in developing skills related to creativity and communication. The students were assigned to design a poster for an upcoming workshop based on the criteria provided by Ms. Rahman. The posters were submitted and one was selected to promote the workshop among the department students.
